Fillings are used to repair small cavities and broken areas of teeth in one visit. We use tooth colored fillings for most of our restorations. Silver fillings are available also and can be an excellent and durable alternative in areas of the mouth that are not visible.

Crowns & Bridges

A Crown is usually recommended when a tooth is badly broken or decayed. Crowns can also be used to completely change the appearance of a tooth for esthetic or functional reasons. Unlike a filling, which is placed into a tooth, a crown fits over a prepared tooth. Typically, crowns are fabricated by a laboratory in tooth colored materials or gold.

A crown requires two visits to complete. On the first appointment, the tooth is prepared for the crown. All decay is removed, badly damaged areas are built up, and the tooth is shaped to accept a crown. An impression is made of the tooth and a temporary crown is made. On the second visit, the temporary crown is removed and the permanent crown is cemented in place.

A bridge is simply multiple crowns which are connected. Often, a bridge is used to replace a missing tooth between two sound teeth. A false tooth is connected to crowns on either side of the missing tooth. Bridges can be a simple, quick and esthetic way to replace missing teeth. Bridges can be made to replace missing teeth in the front or back of the mouth.
