Tooth Extractions
An extraction is the removal of a tooth. Most commonly, teeth are removed when they become painful or badly decayed. Doctors Birdwell and Guffey emphasize conservative restorative dentistry and extractions are avoided when possible. While we do perform many extractions in the office, we refer patients with difficult extractions and third molars to one of our excellent local oral surgeons.
Once a tooth is extracted, the jawbone beneath it shrinks from a lack of stimulation. In turn, this affects your smile and the shape of your face. You can learn about the options available for replacing missing teeth on our Tooth Replacement page.
